Things to Know (will be updated soon)
Location: Gulf Coast Gathering will be held at the Group Camp at Tickfaw State Park near Springfield, Louisiana. The park is located on the Tickfaw River southeast of Baton Rouge and southwest of Hammond. It encompasses four ecosystems: a cypress/tupelo swamp, a bottomland hardwood forest, a mixed pine/hardwood forest, and the river itself. Boardwalks throughout the park allow visitors to experience the sights and sounds of south Louisiana plants and wildlife.
Check-in opens at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Check-out by noon Sunday.
Please check in at the Dining Hall upon arrival. During check-in, you will receive your site token; please wear it at all times. All minors will be given wristbands.
Facemasks are recommended and may be required, depending on the status of the pandemic. Likewise, distancing as much as possible and using hand sanitizer frequently are also good ideas. Hugs are not advisable at this time!
The camp has two dormitory-style buildings for sleeping and a fully equipped kitchen/dining hall. All buildings have air conditioning and heat, restrooms, and bathing facilities; all buildings are handicap-accessible and each dorm has a handicap-accessible bathroom.
We don't know yet if there will be space for tent camping near the group camp. RVs are not permitted in the group campsite, but RV sites may be available in the main campground. Click here for campsite reservation information and here for a list of hotels and B&Bs in the area.
Children: Children under the age of 18 must be in the company of a custodial parent or legal guardian to attend the GCG.
Children under 10 must be supervised at all times; this includes trips to the dining hall. If your child is an early riser, make sure he or she does not leave your sleeping area until you can accompany him/her.
Do not leave children, of any age, unattended near any body of water.
Parents are, at all times, responsible for their children. We do not provide childcare. Parents who do not, in the opinion of the GCG organizers, exercise good parental care of their children will be asked to leave.
Food and Beverages: A meal plan is included with registration.
Meals will be served with a vegetarian option; we will have some vegan and gluten-free items but cannot produce entire meals for these diets.
If you have food concerns, such as allergies, you may wish to shop in a larger town, such as Hammond, for food that you know can accommodate your needs before arriving at the park. Once you get into the rural areas south of I-12 on your way to the park, choices are limited. Springfield, which is the closest town, has a small supermarket called Carter's, but it will not offer the selection of the larger stores in larger cities. We will also have space set aside in the refrigerator if you would like to bring your own meals, but cannot offer kitchen space for cooking. You are welcome to use our microwave and toaster ovens for your food prep.
Breakfast: 7:00–8:00 a.m. A continental style breakfast with certain hot items will be set out each morning.
Lunch: 12:00 noon–1:00 p.m.
Dinner: 5:00–6:00 p.m.
